Collection: Surf Gems

Made of upcycled resin waste from the process of glassing surfboards. Surf Gems artfully display the vibrant layers and colorful swirls of resin that naturally collects on the floor in glassing shops. 

Created by Abby Ahlgrim – California surfer & craftsperson passionate about art, community, and sustainability. With a mission to repurpose waste, encourage self-expression, and inspire a mindful and inquisitive approach to consumerism.

Abby launched the first collection in 2020, combining her background in sustainability studies with her commitment to artistic expression. She developed a process to chisel colorful gems from Surf Rock, the slabs of petrified pigment often discarded by surfboard shops. Each gem is shaped by hand in her Morro Bay studio – just a few blocks away from the cold waters of California’s Central Coast. From steadfast studs to bold bolo ties, Surf Gems offers seasonal collections that resonate with expressive athletes and eco-conscious consumers alike.
